Antonio Conte hails Italy’s work-rate in win over Spain

“I don’t want to go home tomorrow and neither do my players”.

“The lads were remarkable”.

But the pressure is on England coach Roy Hodgson, who was criticised for weakening the side with six changes in the final group game against Slovakia which ended in a goalless stalemate.

Their defeat of Turkey, orchestrated by Iniesta and Silva, still stands out as a high point for attacking football this month, and there have not been many of those.

The game got away from Spain in the end and the final whistle went to end the game with Italy progressing to the quarter finals.

“It’s a shame about Thiago Motta, as he’s our 12th man out there”. We had revenge on our minds and today we had something extra.

The Stade de France showdown is being touted as one of the highlights of Euro 2016 so far, with Conte’s Italy having overcome heavyweights Belgium 2-0 during the group stage.

“We’re facing two of the best teams in the world in the space of a few days”, Chiellini told reporters. The past is worth little now, as we have to give our all in the present. The Azzurri were expected to struggle somewhat due to a lack of attacking stars but they have shown that with Antonio Conte’s tactical nous in the dugout and one of the strongest defences in the competition, they are capable of raising their game. “Now we need to think about the last-eight, which will be more demanding against the world champions”.

Yet again, this was (to some at least) more evidence that De Gea had been conning us all over the last three years or so and was actually crap.

“This is the beginning. But we must accept this disappointment and move on”. “The good stuff starts now”.

Meanwhile, Italy team has the same fortunes like Spain as this team had also won their first matches of the group stage but tasted the defeat in the last group match against the Ireland by 1-0. Italy eliminated us too often without being the better team, the two-time Ballon d’Or victor was quoted as saying by German newspaper Bild on Sunday.

Emanuele Giaccherini revealed his pre-match team talk and Antonio Conte’s preparation.

“I don’t think an era has finished, but we understand how hard it is to win a major championship”, Del Bosque told reporters.

“We legitimised the victory with many chances that we wasted, so it should’ve been more than 2-0”.

Italy like to defend and strike on the counter, and Spain enjoy possession-based football where they expose openings before striking. We played with the same players and in the same way, because it was the way we’d played that had got us there in the first place, and we weren’t going to rip up our plans because of one defeat to Switzerland.
