Bills, Jets in similar positions as teams square off tonight

Avoid starting Taylor this week at all costs. He’s got a new Toyota commercial, and he was referenced a couple times on the HBO football drama/comedy Ballersover the summer, so he’s been riding high. “We have a bad taste in our mouth from previous year, and I’m sure that will carry over into this game”. “Look for Tyrod Taylor (if given time) to open it up after Andy Dalton hit Planes” pass-D pretty hard last week. It was Rex Ryan’s first time back in NY since the Jets fired him and the end result was exactly what everyone was hoping for. They had a total of 340 yards (188 passing yards, 152 rushing yards) and scored 22 points. Watkins said that’s not the case, but I’ll be curious to see how he’s moving against the Jets.

If Revis truly is on the downside, and Rex Ryan disagrees that he is, then Watkins has to win the matchup. There’s no way to sugarcoat it: The team’s receiving corps without him looks like a mess. He didn’t do much in the first game other than beat Revis for a late first down that allowed the Bills to run out the clock.

I picked 10 winners in Week 1, which is OK, but three of my six losses came by a single point, and a fourth came in overtime.

“There [is a] sense of urgency”, Coach Todd Bowles said in a fit of understatement.

Bills head coach Rex Ryan met with the media on Tuesday and said he has not had a chance to see Watkins since Sunday but is on board with Watkins’ stance on playing on Thursday and not having any lingering issues from his offseason surgery. In nine starts going back to a 2008 game when Fitzpatrick was with the Bengals and Ryan was the coordinator with the Ravens, Ryan’s teams are 8-1. 230 yards and 2 TDs seems possible here. And they haven’t beaten Buffalo in any game since 2013. Nonetheless, this is something that shouldn’t happen again as NY has little room for error given their hard schedule ahead.

Tight End: You shouldn’t even have a Jets tight end on your roster. Their next five games are at Kansas City, home to Seattle, at Pittsburgh, at Arizona, and home to Baltimore.

There’s a similar sense of urgency for the Jets, who gave up a go-ahead field goal in the final minute of a 23-22 loss to Cincinnati. MY PICK: Bills 16, Jets 12. The outcome was eight penalties for 89 yards, including four personal fouls, though this was nothing new for a Rex Ryan led Bills squad as this is following a season, which saw them lead the league with 168 penalties.
