Seattle ignores excuses and comes up with victory vs. Patriots

Seattle ran it essentially 24 times for 96 yards (4.0 average) when two Wilson runs for no-gain off his goal line to end the game are removed from the tally.

“It was a big win”, fifth-year linebacker Bobby Wagner said after the game. Belichick usually has his team ready coming out of a bye week and it generally excels at home in prime time. That is a great team over there.

Despite the shortcomings, defensive captain Devin McCourty said he’s confident they will be able to figure things out.

The game was suspenseful as can be: Not only was the outcome settled in the closing seconds, but there were seven lead changes, the same number as in Dallas’ 35-30 win at Pittsburgh, marking the first time in National Football League history there were two such exceedingly back-and-forth games on one day.

Not only did Seattle (6-2-1) force Tom Brady into his first interception this season, but it kept him without a passing touchdown for the first time in 2016 and denied the Patriots an opportunity to tie the game with a goal-line stand in the closing minute. On fourth down Brady threw to Rob Gronkowski in 1-on-1 coverage with Kam Chancellor.

“We wanted to see if we could put it out of reach”, Carroll said.

Later, in the fourth quarter, Wilson threw what became the game-winning touchdown when the Patriots couldn’t get a stop from their own 20 on third-and-eight.

Thomas’ clean, yet brutal tackle, was lauded both by Gronkowski and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on Monday.

By The Associated Press Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is not on the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brady ran the ball more than Blount did on those final four plays, the same Blount who already had three touchdowns on the night. “We have great respect for them and so it’s a really good accomplishment by our guys”. But the fact that Seattle trailed by big margins late in already unwinnable games of what was his first season as Seattle’s coach probably played into the decision.

In that game, Carroll’s team trailed by four but had the ball on New England’s one-yard linewith 26 seconds remaining.

Wilson hit Doug Baldwin with a 15-yard TD pass to expand the lead from 25-24 to 31-24. I wouldn’t say the play-calling.

“I think the longer he plays like this, the more we have a chance to have another win”, Jones said.

Despite committing two turnovers and three fumbles, the Patriots still had a shot to win at the end.

The good news for New England is that it has a few games to try and figure it all out. Seattle was playing just six days after outlasting Buffalo on Monday night, traveling across the country on Friday for a Sunday night game against a rested Patriots squad that hadn’t played since winning at Buffalo on October 30.

Instead of pounding it with bulldozing running back LeGarrette Blount until they pushed it in – or going play-action to Blount and over the top to one of their all-world tight ends, Belichick instead mixed things up. But the 96 yards the Seahawks rushed for on Sunday night was the most Seattle has had on the ground since Week 3 against San Francisco.
