Small businesses offer sales on Black Friday

Businesses that participate in Small Business Saturday on November 26 can receive promotional materials from American Express.

Downtown Mansfield Inc. CEO Jennifer Kime spent Saturday at the Tiny Tim Shoppe, open seasonally to allow kids to do Christmas shopping in secret, helped by volunteers their own age, while their parents wait at the front of the store. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Robb Shepherd, the owner of Shepherd and Schaller Sporting, said that the opportunity to be a part of a business that gives back to the community is a rewarding one that he enjoys quite a bit.

“Shop Local and Small Business Saturday are really key every day of the week”, she said.

They say United States consumers spent $16.2 billion on Small Business Saturday, a 14% increase from $14.3 billion in 2014. “They really do. There’s so many good people in this town and the surrounding towns that really takes care of us”.

But in the middle is a lesser-known shopping event: Small Business Saturday.

“I think a huge part of it is that these are things that we like and that we’re into and there isn’t necessarily a good outlet for that so we open the business that we like to see”, says King.

“This tends to be the second biggest day after (the Saturday before) Christmas for us, which is huge”, Burton said.

“We’re trending to run over past year”, Devan said.

Yes, Worland, as with other communities in the Big Horn Basin, have had some longtime businesses close this year.

“They’ve been around for hundreds of years and each small business contributes back to the community”, says Black.

Owner of Coastal Paws Kathleen White says it’s about the personal feel of the in-store experience. “Without local small businesses, a community can not exist”. “They have incredible gifts to offer and so many unique items that you can’t find anywhere else”. Shops like his also need to have something special to offer.

Rohit Arora is the CEO and co-founder of Biz2Credit.com, a leading online marketplace that connects entrepreneurs with small business loan options to meet their business financing needs. “It’s most important to us because you’re supporting yourselves”.

I don’t want to try and list all the businesses in town because I’m sure I’d miss one or two.
