Brady ties Manning with 200th win, Patriots beat Jets 22-17

Their rivalry aside, the Jets just aren’t very good again this year, even if the Patriots needed a late touchdown to get the 22-17 win. I’ve had a lot of great support over the years. Fans know what they’re getting from Brady and Belichick.

The Jets have rushed for 139 yards or more and averaged better than four yards a carry in each of the last four games. After an efficient drive that featured a 32 yard completion from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, the Jets almost scored on a wildcat play, and then scored when Fitzpatrick connected with wide receiver Brandon Marshall in the back corner of the endzone. “We have to find a way to finish at the end of a ballgame”. Fitzpatrick connected with Marshall for four catches and 53 yards in the first quarter alone.

In a first quarter that featured the Jets winning a challenge on spot, they took the lead on Nick Folk field goal.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Jets are now 7.5-point home underdogs versus the Patriots after opening as an 8.5-point dog earlier in the week. On the fourth drive, the Jets started on their own 21. On second and nine, Fitzpatrick threw to receiver Robby Anderson down the right side for a completion at the 50-yard line.

After missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday, however, it’s the Patriots quarterback’s right knee, rather than his right arm, that’s been the topic of discussion this week. The Jets’ pressure in the first half led to Brady hitting only 15 of his 25 attempts in the first half for 117 yards. Enunwa caught five balls for 109 yards and one phenomenal touchdown catch.

Stephen Gostkowski’s 41-yard field goal cut the Patriots’ deficit to 17-16.

It was a milestone-filled day for Brady, who also became the fifth quarterback in history to reach 60,000 passing yards when he completed an 18-yard pass to Julian Edelman in the second quarter.

These two guys, defensive end Chris Long and wide receiver Chris Hogan, were among a handful of players not named Brady who made big plays with the game in doubt in the final two minutes.

“Anytime you get a turnover, it’s critical”, said Bowles about the fumble.

When the ball is in the air or on the ground, New England has been able to take advantage of late.

That didn’t mean this wasn’t going to be competitive, though; as with most divisional games, this ended up much tighter than perhaps some thought. Seven of the team’s eight final drives finished in scoring position.

When the National Football League schedule was revealed, this was a primetime matchup: The Patriots, the long-standing kings of the AFC East, against the (apparently) rising Jets, who had just missed the playoffs last season despite winning 10 games.

After trading possessions in the third, the Patriots took a 13-10 lead on a field goal after the NY defense made a stop in the red zone.

Trevathan was injured away from the ball when the Titans handed off to Derrick Henry on second-and-5 at their 22 with just under three minutes remaining.

Volin’s sentiment wound up falling a little short, especially as Brady drove the Patriots 83 yards down the field for the game-winning score. In a 3rd quarter that only had four drives, both defenses forced each other to punt and the teams would go into the 4th quarter with the Patriots holding onto a three point lead. Bryce Petty completed 19 of 32 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown against one interception.
