Broncos must-win at Kansas City to have chance at playoffs

The Chiefs march down the field on their opening drive after forcing a Broncos punt, scoring on an Alex Smith touchdown run.

PRO BOWL PLAYERS: The Chiefs had four Pro Bowl selections in safety Eric Berry, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, cornerback Marcus Peters and tight end Travis Kelce. At 27-10 in the fourth quarter, Poe (who is well over 300lbs) threw a touchdown pass to Demetrius Harris. But while Denver’s offense and defense struggled mightily – the Broncos were outgained 330-145 in the first half – they managed to kick a field goal and shut the Chiefs’ offense out in the second quarter to cut the Chiefs’ lead to 21-10 at the break.

The Chiefs are looking to take advantage of an very bad break for the Oakland Raiders with the injury to Derek Carr, but they have their work cut out for them, with the Denver Broncos in Arrowhead on primetime, Christmas night.

Siemian finished a dismal 17 of 43 for 183 yards, a paltry 4.3 yards-per-attempt.

Converting the Simmons’ pick for seven points should have given the Broncos’ momentum and indeed Dekoda Watson stuffed Hill on the ensuing kickoff return. The forced fumble by Anthony Sherman was crucial, and the KC special teams has made several game-changing plays like this in 2016.

He caught 11 of 12 passes thrown to him for 160 yards. As the No. 5, they will most likely play the victor of the AFC South.

The offensive and defensive game plans were sound, and the Chiefs’ players were clearly ready to play.

While the seeds are still to be decided, the AFC playoff participants are officially decided with the New England Patriots (13-2), Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers (10-5), Houston Texans (9-6), Kansas City and Miami Dolphins (10-5) all in. The Broncos, who have now lost four out of their last five, will end a disappointing season with myriad questions, most notably what to do under center.

Kansas City bolted out to a 14-0 lead against the reeling Broncos while memories of a Week 15 blown opportunity with the same lead danced in their heads. The Broncos’ run defense is giving the game away.

“We always want to play at home”, said Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, whose team is playoff-bound in back-to-back seasons for the first time since making it every year from 1990-95.

Several other Broncos said they weren’t annoyed by the play.

The Broncos have won three games in December in Kansas City. He had six carries for 95 yards in the game.
