Giants vs Packers: 6 Matchups To Watch For Wild Card Weekend

The hottest quarterback in football didn’t flinch against one of the hottest defenses in football.

The Green Bay Packers will take on the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in the Divisional round of the playoffs on Sunday.

It was a fitting end to a frustrating evening as the Giants suffered their first playoff loss in Green Bay since 1961. Green Bay is running verticals across the board, with tight end Jared Cook running a deep cross. The former Ole Miss man may play with a level head that belies his years but he’s still a rookie that makes first-year errors. In the Packers win over the Giants, Aaron Rodgers had four touchdown passes and now has 12 touchdown passes in his last three games overall.

Despite the good showing in the regular season, there is a feeling of doubt that the Cowboys can do it again Sunday.

“The key for the entire game was early on, our defense with the stops in the red zone”, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said.

Early this season, the Packers were not on the same page and it resulted in ugly football. “He has spoiled all of us around here for a long time”.

Expect to see the Packers come out swinging this weekend. He’ll be ripped even more vociferously after news emerged that he banged his head against the locker room door and punched a hole in the wall. In the first meeting, Elliott ran for 157 yards, and the Cowboys finished with 191 yards on the ground – the most by a Packers opponent this season.

The Cowboys lost the game 34-27. Both teams had 11 drives on offense. Well, for one game anyway. Julius Peppers represents the heart and soul of the Packers’ defense.

Talking of… Rodgers’ Hail Mary TD to end the half was a killer for the Giants, sending them into the break behind by eight points, rather than one.

COOLED OFF: Giants quarterback Eli Manning was 7 of 11 for 85 yards in the first quarter, when NY had a 105-7 edge in total yardage.

“It’s a game of inches”, he said.

“I think (the boat photo and accompanying backlash) did a great job at creating distractions for us”. There will be a number of players and matchups that will have a say in the outcome of that game.

Cornerback was really the last piece to the Packers’ defensive puzzle. We saw. But I simply do not correlate it to watching the sun come up on a party boat in Miami six days before the game. And Matthews had a strip-sack and fumble recovery.

Giants All-Pro safety Landon Collins said “nothing” went wrong defensively. Much like the regular season, in the playoffs there just might not be a need for Tony Romo. What did they give up, six points?

That was how the transcriber and many reporters heard McCarthy’s comment, although later the Giants public relations department amended it to a benign, “focused on the team that we are going to be on Sunday”.

Beckham, of course, is a fantastic player.

Those big-play Packers are back, having scored at least 30 points each of the last four weeks.
