UFC 208 Predictions: Will ‘The Spider’ Return?

“I mean, we’re going to fight and no matter what people think one of us will be the 145 champion”.

“I think if I win, it will solidify my career. It’s Holly and me fighting, not Cris, so it is what it is, I’m sorry”.

Headlining the event will be a contest for the inaugural women’s featherweight championship between former bantamweight champion Holly Holm and Dutch kckboxer Germaine de Randamie.

“The company I’m managed by, one of their partners co-owns Glory MMA in Kansas City with James Krause, who is in the UFC and is now my coach”, she said.

Following Holm’s exit, her opponent De Randamie came out and also made weight comfortably at 143.6 pounds. “So, she’s a hard worker”.

Both fighters weighed in Friday morning below the 145-pound featherweight limit, Holm at 144.4, de Randamie at 143.6.

“How can you not respect Holly [Holm]”, challenger Germaine de Randamie said. And my fight with Shevchenko, I know that was still a close fight.

Holm, while not the best or most risky stand-up artist at 135 pounds, has a substantial amount of experience as a pure striker outside the Octagon.

After two straight defeats, Holm hopes to taste victory again in the main event of UFC 208 in Brooklyn. If he is to beat Jacare he can make up a lot of ground, and find himself in some very important contender fights in his next outings. Her last loss was to Amanda Nunes in 2013.

Holm is forever linked to Rousey in the history book. “Derek Brunson is a great fighter, he’s a young guy and a good challenge for me”. It may not be realistic due to the considerable size and weight discrepancy between the two, but before his career wraps up, Silva wants nothing more than to share the Octagon with the brash Irishman. I wanted to be the first one to do that. And that’s what I want. “I’m fighting a guy who is not as fast as he used to be, but this guy has all the skills in the world and is considered the best fighter of all time”.

Coming off a big win of her own – a first-round submission of fellow strawweight Paige VanZant at last month’s UFC on FOX 22 – Waterson (14-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has all praise for her Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA stablemate, who started her professional run in 2011 after a highly successful career in pro boxing.

She gained a slice of notoriety when she knocked out Belgian actor Tom Waes in a short bout filmed for a reality show.

Holm, the former UFC Bantamweight Champion, can make history with a win by becoming the first fighter to win titles in two different weight classes in the women’s division. De Randamie is truly a dark horse here; and one with arguably an equally decorated background in Muay Thai compared to that of Holm in boxing.

Before that fight, Glover Teixeira will take on Jared Cannonier in a match that pits the No. 3-ranked light-heavyweight in the world against a guy who most of us have never heard of.

Where once he was able to mesmerise opponents and onlookers with his fluid movement and counterattacks he now appears to have to conserve energy with frustrating periods of inactivity on the feet and trying to finish fights with one spectacular blow. Neither fighter relies much on her grappling, although I’d expect Holm to be more well rounded in that area given the fact that she trains with highly-touted head coach Greg Jackson.
