Second-year driver Chase Elliott is stealing the show with his second consecutive pole position at the Daytona 500, and a win in the Thursday night’s first Duel at Daytona.

And Kahne, seeking redemption after a 2016 season in which he led a staggering zero laps, will roll off 28th for Sunday’s race.

In the qualifying race, Hamlin didn’t need his fellow Toyota drivers and even overcame a pit road penalty to get the win. However, the splendor of the Daytona 500 is what draws the interest as 40 drivers will look to etch their name on the Harley J. Earl Trophy. Plus his actions dramatically affected several cars that could have won the race. Earnhardt lost the draft and wound up sixth. There’s a lot of pressure going in to making this race.
For most, the opportunity to win on stock-car’s grandest stage is well worth the gamble.
Whether it was being passed on the last lap or crashing a dominant vehicle, the ways Tony Stewart lost the Daytona 500 has run the gamut. Johnson was happy to put in a good word and called the decision-makers at BK Racing to lobby on LaJoie’s behalf.
