Daytona 500: 59th Annual NASCAR Race Kicks Off Sunday Afternoon

Kurt Busch’s rearview mirror fell off with 30 laps remaining in Sunday’s Daytona 500, but it wasn’t a problem since he was only concerned with looking ahead to a victory. Second-year driver Chase Elliott is stealing the show with his second consecutive pole position at the Daytona 500, and a win in the Thursday night’s first Duel at Daytona.

“It’s got everybody a little more amped up, but there are not a whole lot of cars finishing”, said Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series rookie Ty Dillon, who was consumed in a crash on Lap 142″. He won the first stage, which ended with a green-and-white checkered flag waved from the flagstand. The victor of the first two stages of each race will receive one playoff point, and the race victor will receive five playoff points.

“I feel like when we’re still running good on the race track, I’m having fun and love working with my guys – I just don’t see it (retirement)”. “These wrecks and things that drivers go through are nothing new”. Nobody knew how to do that better than Junior’s father, who won 13 times with plates. You know how he is, he’s very hard on himself. That’s why he believed he could see the air around his vehicle. A cut tire on Busch’s #18 Toyota livery caused a mini-Big One that also collected Dale Earnhardt, Jr and a few others.

Dale Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Amy is Earnhardt’s wife and DEI is the former Dale Earnhardt Inc., for whom Earnhardt drove and Gibson worked more than a decade ago. “The more common stuff out there, you see everybody sort of taking advantage of that”. We had a great auto. Things didn’t work out … Gibson told TMD. “It gets to the next level because you dream as a kid that you want to be a crew chief in this business”. While most were either crippled by several big crashes or running out of gas in the final laps, Busch kept his No. 14 Ford pointed toward the finish line to give Haas and Stewart their first win as vehicle owners in NASCAR’s biggest race.

“I tried to get the wheel turned and get down the racetrack, but I lifted off the gas to miss it, and got on the splitter a little bit and the vehicle went straight”, Earnhardt said. “He’s one of the best stock auto drivers in Canada and it’s taken a lifetime to make the Daytona 500”.

Positive – a word that hasn’t been used very much around the NASCAR world lately.

Elliott and Earnhardt both drive for Chevrolet and Hendrick Motorsports. He almost slipped to safety along the inside of the track, but the front right wheel of his Toyota Camry rammed into the skidding Jimmie Johnson, who had spun out in the middle of the speedway seconds before. And Kahne, seeking redemption after a 2016 season in which he led a staggering zero laps, will roll off 28th for Sunday’s race.

“Like I say, I wasn’t interested in points racing, I was interested in winning”. “It’s all what you can do to help yourself”.

In the qualifying race, Hamlin didn’t need his fellow Toyota drivers and even overcame a pit road penalty to get the win. However, the splendor of the Daytona 500 is what draws the interest as 40 drivers will look to etch their name on the Harley J. Earl Trophy. Plus his actions dramatically affected several cars that could have won the race. Earnhardt lost the draft and wound up sixth. There’s a lot of pressure going in to making this race.

For most, the opportunity to win on stock-car’s grandest stage is well worth the gamble.

Whether it was being passed on the last lap or crashing a dominant vehicle, the ways Tony Stewart lost the Daytona 500 has run the gamut. Johnson was happy to put in a good word and called the decision-makers at BK Racing to lobby on LaJoie’s behalf.
