Former Wisconsin tight end Lance Kendricks signs with Green Bay Packers

The free-agent tight end agreed to a new contract with the Packers on Friday, announcing his decision via Instagram. The addition of Bennett means that the Packers are likely cutting ties with last year’s starter Jared Cook. He caught 50 passes for 499 yards and two touchdowns last season, his sixth in the NFL. Bennett is fresh off of winning the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.

The Packers new star tight end has played for some of the most iconic franchises in the NFL. “It’ll be good for them to be rooting for you instead of against you because that crowd gets insane”. Originally drafted in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys 2008, Bennett played four seasons in Dallas behind Jason Witten. He emerged as a consistent threat in the passing game, catching 204 passes for 2,132 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career.

Cook was released after the 2015 season by the Los Angeles Rams. “Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to do that, so having the opportunity to potentially get to the playoffs and the Super Bowl, it makes you excited about football”.

Kendricks joins Martellus Bennett in Green Bay, which oculd indicate that the Packers want to use more two-tight end sets in 2017.

The Patriots acquired Bennett in a trade with the Bears in March last year and inherited the final year of his contract with a 2016 base salary of $5.085 million.

However, as Bennett notes, some of those numbers are taken.

Bennett, who also earns a great deal of attention for his personality off the field, was the first member of the reigning champs to indicate that he wouldn’t be visiting Donald Trump’s White House.
