Goa: Vishwajit Rane interested in joining BJP, suggests Digvijay Singh to retire

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley today formally took charge of the defence ministry hours after Manohar Parrikar resigned to take over as the next chief minister of Goa.

With these tweets, the in-fighting in the Congress has become a full-blown public brawl with leaders accusing each other of destroying the party and sabotaging government formation in Goa.

The BJP won 22 seats in total. Around 18 congress leaders are in touch and are likely to change side if given go ahead by BJP leadership.”BJP led government has inducted eight ministers in the council of ministers, there are another four berths”. “They were in touch with us even yesterday but I don’t know what happened and why they did not vote for us”, Congress Legislative Party leader Chandrakant (Babu) Kavalekar said. I informed him I had verified the numbers and was satisfied and that Congress leaders hadn’t arrived yet.

When we reached, Prasad Gaonkar said, “I have given my letter of support to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. How could the Congress ever be invited to form the Government?” he questioned. In Manipur, MLAs are being abducted by CISF in broad daylight by misusing the powers of the Central Government. “Congress is making offers like ministerial berths and deputy chief minister ship to those MLAs”. As a result, veteran Congressman Digvijaya Singh – the party’s nominee to firefight the challenge – was fettered in taking on-the-spot decisions.

He also said he has not decided which party to contest upon, the Sattari Yuva Morcha or some other name. When the physical count of the opposition Congress party began, their two MLAs namely Vishwajit Rane and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco were missing.

Alleging that the Goa Governor had acted against the Constitution, he said, “The Sarkaria Commission guidelines state that the single largest party should be given the first opportunity to form the government, and if it can’t (form the government), then the second option should be exercised”.

This development came after the Congress moved the apex court challenging the scheduled swearing-in of Parrikar.

Singh further, in a tweet said that he would be raising the Goa Governor’s conduct in Parliament and file a petition with President Pranab Mukherjee.

“Once I am elected, I will tender my support to the Manohar Parrikar-led government”.

The party had to get the support of the GFP, the Independents and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. Congress has emerged as a leading party with 28 seats ahead BJP having won 21 in the 60-member lawmaking house.
