Critics: New GOP Plan Would Hurt Minnesota’s Children

Health is very personal, for all of us. It will just increase the number of younger people who wait until they are sick to get insurance. Behavioral health parity sends a message that combats stigma. Unfortunately for them, there is always the danger that changes in a high profile area like health care could run afoul of the so-called Pottery Barn rule, “you break it, you own it”.

For Democrats, the report supports their claims that the president made false promises and instead is seeking to impose a plan that would provide big tax cuts for the wealthy while reversing the progress under Obamacare in spreading health coverage to 20 million to 22 million people, or 43 percent of those who lacked coverage before the law went into effect.

What will happen? What seems most likely is that a version of AHCA will be enacted to replace Obamacare (too important a campaign pledge is involved), most likely with some shoring up of Medicaid and perhaps a postponement of some tax repeals. “It’s been a job creator, given health care to a lot of new people that didn’t have health care before and saved money in hospitals by reducing uncompensated care”.

The ACA clearly needs to be fixed, repaired, and reformed.

There is more bad news for those between the ages of 60 and 64. And that is clearly wrong.

The legislation also would phase out Medicaid expansion beginning in 2020. The federal deficit reduction would take place from 2017 to 2026, for a mere $33.7 billion reduction each year; for reference, the estimated federal deficit for 2017 is $559 billion. These tax credits present a particular problem for poorer people living in the rural south. The penalty would be 30 percent of an otherwise applicable premium for individuals buying nongroup coverage who have not maintained continuous coverage. This is the exact opposite of how people are prioritized today in the Congress and the White House.

He added that if the ACA is not replaced, “millions and millions of people will be forced off their plans”. Health care is a life and death issue and a rush to judgment before examining the full impact would be gross irresponsibility on the part of the Paul Ryan Republican leadership. Indeed, the bill has been called Obamacare lite.

In a Facebook post on March 7, Congressman Fitzpatrick asked constituents to educate themselves on health care reform and let him know their thoughts.

The health care bill now being drafted by the House, and enthusiastically endorsed by the president, makes major cuts in Medicaid, the joint federal/state program that protects the most vulnerable Americans.

Sue Forester, PT Development Coordinator for Centre Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM), said she’s concerned about the possible change.

It’s been a good thing for MA, too, says Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, where about 300,000 have been added to the Medicaid rolls. Despite the fact that America spends more of its Gross Domestic Product than any of the other industrialized countries, the outcomes fall below those particular nations. I think Jesus’ words in Matthew 25 are meant literally – that we will be judged by Christ for how we treat and care for the poor and sick.

But care for older and disabled enrollees tends to cost more, particularly when it comes to long-term care. “The Senate has a lot of concerns with the bill, so there’s a long way to go before they put their stamp on it”.
