India declare first innings at 603/9 against Australia

Down at the other end though Pujara was grafting his way to his eleventh Test century and endearing himself to India fans even more than he already has in a career that has been spent in the shadow of Kohli. At stumps on day 2, they were one wicket down for 120, trailing Australia by 331 runs.

As far as Australia is concerned, Pat Cummins has bowled with unnerving pace and tenacity to settle the Indian batsmen and only Pujara has been able to counter his successfully.

“The game is evenly poised”, Vijay said.

After Maxwell’s departure, Wade and Smith forged a quick 64-run sixth wicket partnership.

“Once the ball gets a little bit softer it plays really well”. Pujara was on 190 and Saha on 99.

“We know what talent he is but it’s so pleasing to see him go so well”. India were 276 for four at that stage. “They’ve done a lot of practice in those sort of conditions”.

Skipper Steve Smith scored an unbeaten 178 as Australia were bowled out for 451 in the afternoon session on day two of the third Test against India in Ranchi.

Pujara then went on to score his third double century in Tests and second against Australia.

Pujara also used review to prolong his stay after he was given out lbw to a sharply turning Lyon delivery when on 157.

A breezy cameo by Jadeja (54) took India past the 600-run mark.

Len Hutton’s 364 off 847 balls against Australia in 1938 is the longest Test innings.

Day four of the third Test between India and Australia could possibly be the day that decides the outcome of not only the match but the series. Although he was Man of the Match on his Test debut in Johannesburg as an 18-year-old in 2011, Cummins has spent such long periods in injury recovery that this Test is just his 10th first-class match.

They were rewarded for their boldness on Saturday but the fourth day did not pan out anywhere near as well as the visitors had been hoping. His only moment of nervousness came when he was given out leg-before off Lyon in the 155th over.

Pujara and Saha frustrated Australian bowlers with a marathon stand and earned India a crucial first innings lead in the second session.
