West Ham 2-3 Leicester City reaction

Manuel Lanzini pulled a goal back for the hosts in some style on 20 minutes with a wonderful free-kick but the Hammers’ vulnerable defence was exposed once again when Vardy reacted quickest to tap in from Mahrez’s corner on 38 minutes to give Leicester a commanding lead at the break. “I thought they pushed us back, put some question marks over us and it was good to show that resilience at the end of the day”.

The Senegal midfielder was involved in a crucial flashpoint in his side’s 4-0 win over Hull at Goodison Park.

City fans sang ‘Are You Going To Madrid?’ after being drawn against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter finals. I think the president didn’t want him any more and so sacked him, but it takes nothing away from his qualities and what he did with us. Lanzini’s goal appeared to wake them up and from then on the game became a struggle to hold on.

West Ham: Randolph 5, Byram 6, Fonte 6, Reid 5 (Snodgrass, 18 6), Cresswell 6 (Masuaku, 67 6), Kouyaté 7, Obiang 6 (Fernandes, 67 6) Ayew 7, Lanzini 9, Antonio 7, Carroll 8.

On 63 minutes the home side’s constant pressure at last paid off when Ayew headed in after Carroll had won the ball at the back post.

Jamie Vardy added a third for the Foxes when he poked home from close range and West Ham added a second when Andre Ayew nodded in following a corner.

But no one can deny the Algerian’s quality part in the second, a free header for Robert Huth when West Ham’s back four simply went absent without leave.

“[Schmeichel] was very important, they were pivotal saves”.

Speaking after the game, Bilic said: “I’m very disappointed”.

A number of missed opportunities for the Hammers, as well as a couple of fine saves from Kasper Schmeichel, meant the score remained 3-2, leaving most of the crowd very frustrated.

“I think he’s in the best form since I’ve been here”.

It was revealed that Sullivan instructed manager Slaven Bilic to try and stop the side from conceding early goals.

And Bilic reckons Antonio will have to be withdrawn from the England squad as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The hammers almost drew level just after the half hour mark, Antonio with some great work down the right, cutting in and smashing the ball but forcing a good save from Schmeichel. “I’m not happy that we have to go behind to do it, but the training is really, really good and the intensity is high”.
